Hello lovely Luuuxers!
The recent Sephora VIB sale really punished my wallet! There were so many new product releases and products I had been wanting for so long that I finally bit the bullet and bought. The Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye palette was somewhat of an impulsive buy, since it was only released soon before the sale began, but as soon as I laid my eyes on it, I knew it was something I absolutely needed. I had heard such awesome reviews about the Shade and Light face contouring palette, so I had faith that the eyeshadows would be just as incredible. Besides, you cannot go wrong with an all-matte palette!
I know there has been a lot of hype surrounding this product, and just about the Kat Von D brand in general. Kat Von D is absolutely on fire lately! I did not gravitate towards this brand for a long time, but now that I`ve tried a few of Kat`s products, I`m officially hooked.
I`ve used this palette about 3x so far since I`ve gotten it, and my first impression is that it is awesome! The palette is divided into three sections: neutral, cool, and warm. I love how this makes creating an eye look really easy. However, I have also created a look by combining shades from different color families, and it turned out great as well. The palette includes a detailed glossy card with suggestions on how to use this palette for eye contouring, depending on which part of your eye you wish to reshape, emphasizes, or minimize. I thought this was a very thoughtful addition to the palette and I cannot wait to recreate some of the suggested looks, as well as experiment, since this palette is very versatile.
The quality of the shadows is incredible, which lives up to the hype surrounding Kat Von D eyeshadows in general. The swatches that I have included in the second picture above are on bare skin, without primer, and you can see how smooth and richly pigmented each shade is. I honestly don`t think any of the shades are duds--they are all equally lovely to use. I also appreciate how three of the shades are larger. I feel as if those shades will be the ones I use the most, so it will be nice to not have to hesitate to use them, since I know that I will not likely use them up before using the other shades. That is always the worst--hitting pan on a favorite shade in a palette before the rest!!!
Overall, I think my favorite shade is the largest pan in the warm quad, the shade called `Ludwin`. It is a warm peach color that I love to blend in the crease, no matter what other shades I am using. It reminds me a lot of Peach Smoothie by Makeup Geek! My other favorite is the large pan to the very left, a shade called `Laetus`. It matches my skin tone perfectly, and I really like using a skin-toned eyeshadow on top of my primer before adding any other colors because it really helps with blending. I can tell I am going to get a LOT of use out of that color, and I feel like this palette is going to make its way into almost every look I do now, in some way or form.
If you are a lover of mattes, or if you need a versatile matte palette in a variety of natural tones in your collection, then this palette would be an excellent addition. These are the best matte shadows that I have had the pleasure of using, and at $46 USD for 9 eyeshadows, you are getting a lot for your money. Kat Von D is a brand exclusive to Sephora, in case you want to find it for yourself!
And now, the hard part begins...trying to resist buying all of the rest of Kat Von D`s products! I want to try the liquid lipsticks, the Monarch palette, the Lock It foundation...this is madness!
xoxo
