A couple weeks ago, I visited Chelsea Market while in New York City. Chelsea Market is home to some incredible stores and restaurants and, on this trip, I made an awesome purchase :)
One of the spaces in the market is a market within itself - there`s multiple vendors inside and you can just walk through the space and browse the different wares and items. I had always admired this one particular vendor who specializes in head wear and headbands, so I decided to stop and look. I immediately found a bunch of things I loved!
The woman who owns the little `shop` helps design and make many of the headbands herself (she also supports local artists by selling ones made by other designers in the city). I picked out a soft, jeweled band that is black and detailed with gorgeous jewels. It can be worn `hippie style` over your hair, on top of your head but beneath your hair like a normal headband, or even worn flapper style. The woman showed me how to wear it flapper style and even twisted my hair up into it - it was awesome!!
I also purchased a peacock feather headband because the one I currently have is getting old and scraggly-looking. This new one is beautiful! It has a bunch of small peacock feathers and is accented with a jewel piece that I adore. The woman helped me pick between a couple different jewel options and I`m so happy with my choices!
Now, the price may not be the prettiest thing ever, but headbands like these are things I wear often and use a lot, so the investment is worth it to me. Together, the two pieces were $70. Goods in New York are generally pricier, especially in a place like Chelsea Market and particularly when dealing with hand-made goods. It`s only been a couple weeks and I`ve always gotten some good use out of them! And I especially get lots of comments on the peacock feather one :)
I think I might make it a tradition to add a piece to my collection each time I visit!
