Reuters. By Liana B. Baker - The producer of social games Zynga will launch a new gaming service that lets users play in the company`s website instead of Facebook, potentially removing traffic from the world`s largest social network, which is also the biggest partner of the company.
The service is the company`s boldest move so far away to create a presence on Facebook, where it comes from 93 percent of its revenue. The redesigned website of Zynga, which will be online in late March, makes it easier for the user to play through faster access to chat in real time.
Five major Zynga games are available in the new http://Zynga.com, including "Castleville" CityvVille and "Words with Friends," the company said Thursday.
"The best thing is that you can play and play with people who enjoy social games, but they need not be part of your list of Facebook friends," said vice president of operations at Zynga, in an interview with John Schappert .
However, he said that the call Zynga Platform is well connected to Facebook and users have to access the platform through its Facebook ID. All sales of virtual goods in games such as houses or other items, will be conducted through Facebook Credits, the payment system of the social network said.
Facebook, which has 845 million users, gets 30 percent of its revenue through Facebook Credits. Zynga executives declined to comment whether the company ever sell items on the platform without paying a part of the value to Facebook.
