YLOTD - Homemade Japanese Rice

On Thursday, my friends and I went to our friend`s restaurant for dinner and they served me a huge bowl of katsu don and I was only able to finish 1/2 so I packed 1/2 home.

Yesterday I decided to make my own lunch using the leftovers.

First, I boiled the sprouts in salt water for 5 minutes and then mixed them with sesame oil. I then put it aside in a bowl and worked with the leftovers.

Using two pans, I put the katsu in one and the rice in the other. I found that if you attempt to grill them together, the rice gets overcooked while the katsu isn`t crispy and only lukewarm. I poured 1/4 cup of cup water into the rice because leftover rice sticks together. I also put in some roasted seaweed to add more flavor to the rice. Once the rice and katsu was done, I put the rice in a huge bowl with the katsu ontop and layered on the sprouts.

It turned out to be a very successful, quick and healthy lunch.
