Today, as it turns out, is Yellow Pig Day. This strangely cute holiday actually has a history, and it`s more popular than you think. Back in the 1960`s, a couple of Princeton students were told to study the properties of the number 17. Frustrated, they imagined a yellow pig with 17 legs, eyes, ears, etc. I for one am not sure why, but the idea got around and today many mathematicians actually celebrate Yellow Pig Day (of course on the 17th day of July). What is pictured above is a very adorable Japanese eraser in the shape of a yellow pig. I actually have this eraser. It`s sitting on my desk right now :)
