I get so lazy when it comes to deep cleaning my brushes. I know i know its bad, BUT I do spot clean them on a daily so I guess that makes up for them.
I spot clean them with the MAC makeup brush cleaner that I just pour into a little spray bottle, give them a spray, swirl them on a cloth, and let them dry, it dries in a few min. When it comes to deep cleaning though I do it about once a month...I try and do it once a week, but ya...that doesn`t happen.
WHEN I DO deep clean my brushes the drying time is what kills me! Especially for my foundation and powder brushes. They take forever to dry. As much makeup as I buy, you would think I would back myself up with brushes to switch them out.
Totally got way off topic, but there is a point...I promise.
I don`t have a big problem with my brushes not holding its shape, but while they are drying I like to use The Brush Guard to help form them back into their original state. I mostly like to use them on my bigger brushes, my eye shadow brushes all hold their shape very well.
I purchased these brush guards two years ago at IMATS (International Makeup Artist Trade Show) and have been using them ever since. They are made of plastic like threads that are woven together, making it stretch. I got a variety pack that has 4 different sizes, 1 large, 2 medium, 2 small, and 1 xsmall, making it 6 that comes in the pack.
In my pictures the brushes I used the brush guards on were...
---> Xsmall - Sigma blending eyeshadow brush
---> Small - Costco blush/contour brush and Crown blush/contour brush
---> Medium - Costco face powder brush and ELF flat top powder brush
---> Large - Real Techniques large powder brush
I just realized that I never took a picture of the actual brushes...ahh sorry. When using them you just slip them on the bottom of the brush and pull it up towards the hair on the brush. You can lay your brushes down to dry or you can stand them up, which is another cool thing about them, stand them up and get them out of the way.
They are pretty inexpensive, the variety pack is around $5. I don`t remember how much I paid for them at IMATS, I`m pretty sure it was around the same price though. I can`t wait to go to IMATS this year, I know for sure I`m going to pick up another set...and some more brushes so maybe ill clean them more often. Haha.
I included in the source link the site where you can purchase them.
How often do you clean your brushes?
Do you own the brush guards or something similar?
