The other night, after an afternoon/evening in Santa Cruz and San Jose, my friends and I stopped by Yakitori Kokko for dinner. This place is located in San Mateo near the downtown area.
So what this place serves is basically finger food. They`re Japanese versions of kabobs. Although I have none in this picture, we did try some of these kabobs. We tried the Bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms and also the chicken gizzards. They were really good but then again, they`re kind of hard to mess up.
In the picture is our ground chicken with an egg and rice and some squid that was raw and soaked in sake with ginger, green onion and some other flavorings.  We also got chicken karrage and chicken wings. The rice and chicken karrage was really good. The chicken wings I could do without. I did not like the squid at all because I`m not that big of a fan of the taste of sake. We also had some pickled cucumbers which were pretty good.
Definitely something different and worth trying. Things do add up though, keep in mind. Its about $3-$4 per skewer of food and its one of those half sized skewers.
Have you guys ever had yakitori?? If you`re from the San Mateo area, have you ever been to this restaurant?
