Thanks to BzzAgent i received two free books at the beginning of the month, and i`ve just finished the first one in the two book series.
The Hangmans Daughter.
although the book is titled after the daughter of a Hangman it goes beyond her story.
The beginning of the book starts with the murder of a child, and then the midwire Martha is accused of witch craft and thrown in jail, but after a few ore deaths of children it becomes apparent that the midwife isn`t guilty, but not everyone can see that.
The hangman then embarks on a journey to prove the woman`s innocence. Enlisting the help of a young physician Simon and his daughter Magdalena.
The young man and woman are in love with each other, but it is socially unacceptable for a doctor to marry a Hangmans daughter.
I did like the book, but there were a few things that made it difficult.
The first half of the book felt like it dragged on, if i didn`t have to finish this to review for BzzAgent i might have given up on it.
And for me the beginning is a little confusing, the author hopped fro one characters perspective to another and that made it a little hard for me to follow, and to remember exactly who all the characters were, although i did catch on by the end of it.
And an interesting thing about the book is that the characters are real!
At the end of the book it explains how the author is actually related to the Kuisl family, one of the longest family lines of Hangmen. Although the story itself isn`t exactly true.
Would i recommend this book?
I have a few friends i know would be interested in it.
And if you like murder mysteries that leave you guessing until the very end this would be a good book for you. It does have a lot of action you just have to get there.
But if you`re not really into reading and you just want a fast read that`s really straight forward i wouldn`t recommend this book.
Now i`ve just started the second boo of the Series which is The Dark Monk,
i`ll definitely review that book when i finish it
What kind of books do you read?
