The X-51A "Waverider" was supposed to fly up to Mach 6 (3,600 MPH or 5,790kph). After being dropped from a B-52. A faulty scoop control fin prevented its scram jet from firing and the prototype was lost when is subsiquintly lost control and crashed into the desert. This is the second failure of the Waverider as a previous prototype last year couldn`t get its scram jet to restart and it crashed into the Pacific Ocean. This leaves only the original prototype which flew in 2010 and reached just over 5 times the speed of sound. The US Airforce has not said if they will reuse it, or if the Waverifer program will ever fly again.
