I miss being in Shanghai, they had so much good food there for cheap.
This was one of my favorite meals there. I had ordered a steamed rice with unagi and abalone. It was so delicious!
Unagi is a fatty eel. You probably are familiar with this if you eat sushi. Abalone, depending on which type and size, can cost anywhere from $5 to $500 a piece. The good ones are considered delicacies in China.
They put the rice in a metal container and layer it with unagi and abalone. Then they put some seasoning and sauce on top, cover it with the metal lid and steam it. You end up having this amazing fluffy and soft rice that takes on the flavor of the unagi and abalone. So amazing! They also give you enough sauce to spread over your rice.
This, I believe, costs only $12 USD, which is very cheap considering unagi and abalone are considered quite expensive in Canada. You also can`t find this type of steamed rice easily in Canada either. Most Chinese restaurants won`t understand what you`re talking about when you ask for this. It`s more of a food you can only get in China.
What do you guys think?
