seems like Trader Joe`s Speculoos Cookie Butter is quite famous. I had heard of it but it never really drew me in enough to go into an actual store to buy it, btw - today I was totally reminded of why I NEVER shop there but ok, on to the good stuff
a jar of Mango Butter and Cookie Butter - whaaaa ? I`ll do a post on the mango butter too just in case. the cookie butter looks like peanut butter, nothing special, brown creamy goo right? wrong. in this little jar there lies such goodness. how can I describe it to you ..... it`s a mix between shortbread cookies, gingerbread cookies with perhaps some nutmeg - that may not sound so great but believe me, it`s absolutely heavenly.
Trader Joe`s is quite chaotic, from the parking lot, to the inside of the store, to the checkout lines. there is no rhyme or reason to the way people act while shopping there. they seem to make these markets very small and they get VERY packed full of people so parking is insane, in fact we witnessed two accidents today hence why I never shop there. I have to say that in spite of all that, I will gladly venture into such a store time and time again just for this. it is essentially made of Belgium speculoos cookies which are made with brown sugar, cinnamon, almonds, nutmeg and ginger, so yes it does have a hint of a gingerbread cookie. there are many different ways to use this spread, it can be used as peanut butter or with peanut butter, mixed into oatmeal, for dipping fruits and pretzels or as I decided to try it out first - over toast
although it`s thick and rich it`s not as heavy feeling or tasting as peanut butter can be nor as oily. I actually made two pieces of toast but my almost 4 yr old tried it and well, stole my toast lol as far as the nutritional value - it has 90 calories, 6g of total fat, 5g of sugar. I`m thinking if you have peanut allergies you should try this, not so much if you have overall nut allergies though. I can not wait to try this on pancakes and crepes and all other kinds of goodies !
