I saw this news article and I was astounded! According to a study done by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, most of the lipsticks they tested came back positive for lead--almost 400 shades of lipstick!
The shade "Pink Petal" in Maybelline`s Color Sensational line contained the most lead at around 7 parts per million. Although this is below the level of lead legal for children`s toys, lead is a substance that is toxic at very low levels, which is why it is so dangerous. L`Oreal released a statement indicating that the lead levels were within industry and legal standards, but I still feel that lead does not belong near my skin, and especially not near my mouth!
Luckily, I did a little research on http://Snopes.com and they state that no one has ever been documented to have had lead poisoning from lipstick. So that`s at least a little reassuring.
What do YOU all think? Will you be more cautious when using lipstick? Or could you not care less? It is a little alarming but luckily I don`t use lipstick every day so I will probably continue to use it every so often.
