Tornedo shrimp is fried shrimp but it is very different from regular Tempura shrimp.
Rather than using tempura flour, I believe they use sweet yam strips to coat the entire shrimp and then add batter to it. Once fried, turns into a very orange fried shrimp that has many strips wrapped around it.
It was a very interesting taste because the outer shell had a strong taste of sweet potato or sweet yam. I`m not sure what they used for the outer shell, all I know is, it`s very sweet and crunchy.
The crunch is similar to Chinese Chow mein and your mouth feels a bit greasy after. I think it would have tasted a lot better if they paired it up with sweet and sour sauce rather than tempura dipping sauce.
It was interesting and definitely worth a try.
