Every year in celebration of the Winter Solstice, we make a special dish to celebrate and enjoy with the family. It`s called tong yuen. There`s two kinds, salty and sweet. We made the salty one.
We used glutinous rice flour to make the tong yuen. To that we added daikon, Chinese sausage, pork, and fish patties. No chicken broth was needed nor added. The taste itself comes from the sweet juice of the daikon and the rest of the ingredients. All that was added to enhance the taste was a little sprinkle of salt to the daikon while it was cooking. I probably added less than 1/2 tsp. It was so good to eat on the first day of winter.
What did you do in celebration of Winter Solstice?
