the new film for the great gatsby is slated to be released christmas day this year. i saw the trailer when it was posted on youtube and i must say it was quite a surprise. i visited my old AP english literature teacher yesterday and talked to her about it. she also happens to be a huge movie geek so the moment i told her what the trailer was like, she knew it was a baz luhrmann film lol
i just get this sense that gatsby, even though it was set in the roaring 20s, was like life with the walden filter on instagram. when i read the book, i felt like all the events were quite sleepy and dreamy. baz takes all of that and completely turns it around into this vampier version.
i`m sure mainstream audiences will really enjoy the movie because it`s flashy as hell, but i can`t wait to see it to see how it really interprets the novel. it`s a very profound book and i`d hate for it to be turned upside down, inside out, though i`m sure that`ll be a neat perspective to explore for once.
just to end on a funny note, when the trailer was first posted, people were talking about "spoiler alerts" lol as if this book hasn`t been around for decades and taught in english class at least once...
are you going to watch the great gatsby?
