I actually read this a few weeks ago and the best way I can describe it is as a mixture between any zombie movie and the movie "The Village." I can honestly say that I was super excited to read this . . . before I actually read it. It just didn`t do anything for me, I found the main character selfish and shallow (I really wanted her to die, quite sad, I know). I just became annoyed by the end.
The basic premise of the story is that there is a village that lies in the middle of the Forest of Hands and Teeth which is full of zombies. The people that live there are led to believe that there are no one else living in the world. Then there is Mary, she holds on to a thread of hope that was placed by her mother, who told about the beach and how things were before all of the blood thirsty zombies. Soon all Mary wants to do if go to the beach while managing to cause the death of nearly everyone around her.
My biggest problem was what I stated before, Mary`s personality. She was never happy even when she got what she wanted and didn`t seem to blink an eye when someone died. I just could get past that. I will say that I`m going to be reading the second book because I want to know what happened and if there is a cure.
