The Dance of the Hips

This is one of the dresses that I showed on my expo, its a Cumbia dress and its inspired in what represents my country more than anything; its beautiful women and its carnival which takes place in my hometown Barranquilla.
I designed the dress and divided the cumbia skirt (which is a sensual dance with the protagonist of the hips and its movement) in 6 sections and in each I hand painted very important characters of the carnival that represent our culture. As for the sleeves I hand sew them using red cotton hem and created an effect of a cone going wider and this creates a beautiful contrast with the hips when they are in movement and the shoulders and back that have to be straight
Colombia is a wonderful country full of great people who share laughter, enjoy moments of life and most important, we come as one when things are difficult.
