Texting while driving being banned is pretty obvious because of the increased risk of accidents while texting, but banning texting while walking?! Unheard of, when I saw this I thought this is just a joke, but officials in Fort Lee are handing out $85 tickets for "jaywalking" for those that are spotted texting while walking.
Why are they implementing this new rule? In a small town of 35,000 they have had 3 fatal accidents due to pedestrians who do not pay attention to where they are going due to the distraction of their phones. This may be funny, but after thinking about it, I usually don`t pay attention when I`m texting and walking so this is a new policy that is worth implementing.
What do you think? Excessive or Necessary?!
