It has been another great day in Olympics especially for us here in Trinidad & Tobago.
Keshorn Walcott won the gold in the Men`s Javelin which is a sport usually dominated by European countries. No country in the Western Hemisphere has won it in 60 years (USA 1952).
So not only everyone in London was shocked that this 19 year old from this tiny country won it but everyone here was just as shocked!
Javelin throwing is not popular here. I was amazed he made it to the finals and I was not expecting him to take it all even though he is the 2012 World Junior champion.
With each throw he beat his personal best and T&T`s record. He won with a distance of 84.58m.
Second place went to the Ukraine and third place was Finland.
The last and only other time we won gold was when Hasely Crawford won gold in the 100m in Montreal,1976!
I am happy in my lifetime I got to see us win gold again. I teared up when our national anthem was playing.
I know the Caribbean is happy we won the gold as well. We usually don`t win in field events.
Were you shocked he won?
Are you disappointed a European country didn`t win?
