When I tore my ligament, I was told by my physiotherapist and doctor that I should not be doing anything that would bear weight on the other leg.
When I asked what exercises I should do to keep up with my fitness, they suggested swimming to me.
I was able to keep my muscle mass and fat ratio the same even though all I did was swim every other day during my rehabilitation.
Swimming is a low-impact exercise that works the entire body, though you don`t feel it. Also, you end up torching more calories as you can stay in the pool longer. You don`t really feel the heat or the sweat when you`re in the cold water.
This is why whenever I find condos, I always make sure that a pool is included in the building. I do love swimming and I make it as part of my regular exercise regime.
For a 130 lb person swimming leisurely (not laps) around the pool, they will burn a good 350 calories an hour.
My favorite is doing backstroke laps around the pool.
