This was my first time trying Canoe restaurant and I think of the Oliver & Bonacini restaurants I`ve tried so far, this one was the best even though ive only tried o&b cafe grill and Jump.
Anyway I went there for dinner for their fixed price menu for $45. It was a miracle that i actually got a reservation cause its usually booked up around this time and is supposed to be one of the best restaurants in Toronto.
We started off with drinks. I had the peach sangria, and my bf had a gin and tonic. They also gave us complimentary bread and this spread , which i think was chick peas, olive oil and something else that gave it a kick.
For appetizers I had the "Ingersoll Bufala Mozzarella" with
Charred 100km Tomato Purée & New Farm Greens, and he had "Chilled Summer Sweet Pea Soup" with Wild Flower Crème Fraîche & Dungeness Crab. They were both ok, nothing amazing in my opinion.
For our main dish, we both had the "Wellington County Beef" with Portobello Mushroom Pickles & Creamy Alliston Spuds (aka mashed potato haha). The main was really delish, and also came with some short ribs on the bottom of the beef chunks, carrots, green beans and those leaf things (No idea what theyre called). Portions were actually bigger than expected.
For desert, we both had the "Strawberry Panna Cotta" with Lychee Ginger Consommé & Thai Basil Sorbet. It was alright, I kinda wish i picked something else cause the sorbet was SO SOUR and like really tiny. The table next to us got the "B.C. Cherry Clafoutis" with Toasted Almond Cream & Rum Raisin Ice Cream which sounded good but the cherry kinda turned me off but when i saw it at the next table it actually looked good..
Anyway i was mostly impressed by the main dish and it was one of the better experiences I have had with the summer/winterlicious events. Ive also made posts on pangaea restaurant and annona restaurant and they were not nearly as good.
