On Monday I ended up at Starbucks in Target with my mom and sister. I was low on energy and my sister suggested we pick up some of the Starbucks Refreshers. I had never tried these so I didn`t know what to expect. I asked her of the two flavors they offer which she thought I`d like. They offer Cool Lime and Very Berry Hibiscus. We both went with the berry.
I have to say it was quite good. I was expecting something sweet and syrupy. It wasn`t either. It was refreshing (I suppose hence the name, lol!), light, and natural tasting. When I say that, I don`t know how entirely natural it is, but the hibiscus came through. I commented that it had a floral note to it. My mother thought I was nuts, but my sister understood what I was saying. It really does. You can taste the hibiscus.
They are made with green coffee extracts. I have never heard of green coffee... green tea, yes, green coffee.... I don`t know. Reading up a bit on it, though, it would seem that it is the young coffee bean. It is still green. Instead of roasting to bring out the strong coffee flavor, they somehow harvest it and pull out the caffeine from the bean but none of the typical coffee flavor that comes in the bean. There were whole berries swimming around in the cup, too, which was a nice touch and a bit of added flavor.
All in all it was very good and something I would definitely pick up again. It is refreshing and does give a bit of energy.
