Next on my recommendation of video games is my all time favorite game!!!! Star Wars Shadows of the Empire! I can`t tell you how many hours of my life I have wasted playing this game. Released for both the Nintendo 64 and PC in 1996 and 1998 respectively, this game just recently celebrated it`s 15th birthday! This game was one of the launch titles for the Nintendo 64 and one of the 1st PC games to require a high end 3D card (for the time) in your PC to use. I 1st discovered and played this game when my best friend bought a brand spanking new N64 and we played Shadows on the Empire. God I fell in love with it 1st time and just had to get a copy of my own! Problem was a Nintendo 64 was too expensive so 2 years later I bought the PC version becasue my bro in law installed a high end 3D card into our family`s computer. All the hours I spent playing this..... A couple of years later I got an N64 as a Christmas present and soon got Shadows of the Empire for the N64 and a lot more hours of my youth were wasted!
Anyway, this game as I said just recently celebrated 15 years since its release. The N64 version of the game was notorious for having the most difficult Cheat Code to put in for any N64 game. You had to hold down almost all the buttons and move the joystick certain ways (WITH YOUR CHIN!) to get the cheat code menu to pop up. If you could master that cheat code you could master the game! Sadly only the N64 had this code. The PC version you had to crouch for a certain period of time to get any of the cheats to work. Putting in different names allowed to to switch cameras between different models of the game, like storm troopers, Wampas, and even an AT-ST (Chicken Walker). Another code could change your ship into a tie fighter or X-Wing in the final level! This game has such a good story, and the game play was second to none for a long time! In the game you play as the protagonist "Dash Rendar" a friend of Han Solo`s who joins up with Luke and the others to try and save Han from Boba Fett, only to discover that there`s an even greater threat that you must stop. The story is very deep and the game is highly addictive.
Even though this game is 15 years old and its graphics and sound are completely outdated, this game will always reside in the top spot of my favorite games. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to play the N64 again for nostalgia`s sake.
