And yet another game review from me! And yet another Star Wars game for everyone`s pleasure! This one is called Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike and is the 3rd and final installment of the Rogue Squadron series. Released in 2003 for the Game Cube, this game has you take the roles of Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles again as you fight the Empire across the galaxy. Including ON Yavin VI, Dantooine, ON the Moon of Endor and many others.
Just like with the other 2 RS games, the game play`s controls were very well thought out which allowed for great responses. Once again the graphics got a boost and upgrade from the previous 2 RS games. This time including an atmospheric distortion effect at added to the realism of playing within an atmosphere. Sounds still remained high quality as usual and the soundtrack was equally as good. However what set this game apart from the other 2 RS games was this one included ground attack levels in which you had to get out of your vehicle and proceed on foot, shooting up enemies along the way. However despite this new game feature, fans and critics complied that it was too "clunky." Standing in one place and shooting up enemies didn`t make it very realistic at all. Like the previous RS games you got several unlockables which included many ships and levels. Most of them were unlockable via the Metal Achievements Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Newer ships were added to the unlockable list including a TIE Bomber, TIE Defender, and once again Darth Vader`s TIE Advanced. And once again the Naboo Star Fighter and the 1969 Buick were only available via cheat code. There was also a code to see the Imperial Hanger bay with a Disco song and Disco ball and lights. The game also had a duel mode which you and a friend could play all but 2 of the levels from RS II in split screen. There was also a dogfight feature added into this game where you could fight the aces of Star Wars or vs a friend.
All in all this game is the pinnacle of the Rogue Squadron Series. With the best graphics, sounds, soundtrack and story lines of all 3 games, this one will keep you playing for hours and hours, never tiring of it. I do again highly recommend this game to any and all Star Wars Fans and hope they at least get to play this game at least once in their lives. It`s not a game to be missed.
