Hey all! I wanted to share my very first baby quilt with you guys! And since it is very purple I`m including it in my 29 DAY Challenge of Something Purple. I was invited to a shower about a month back and I decided to make something instead of going to the stores and shopping. I found fabrics around the house and my first concept was to make a blanket but it ended up being a quilt.
My friend is having her very first baby girl this spring after 3 boys and I know she`s going throw her in pink just from the lack of pink years that she`s had. So I`m the baby Journee`s advocate for Purple. =) It was really hard to get a good image with the proper colors, but just know that it`s vibrant and very purple!
I did add a little pink into the mix but mostly the blanket which is crib size, is purple and yellow with touches of pink. I think it came out pretty good. I didn`t use a quilting pattern or anything I just grabbed items from around the house and created my own templates. I used a cd case for the purple polka dot, and a book for the purple rectangles. The long strips were leftover from another project and I just cut those in half and made smaller rectangles to break up the purple. The yellow back is a pastel flannel and the batting is supersoft and snuggly. I decided I wanted her name embroidered on the blanket as well to make it completely personal and I used that as a licsense plate on the back. The stitching I used for the quilting was a scalloped pattern that was already on my sewing machine and the back looks like different size stamp outlines because of it. I really had no idea what I was doing, I just had a basic concept of how to put it all together but it turned out really nice.
So tell me what do you think of my first quilt?
Did you have a designated quilter in your family?
What was the last baby shower gift you purchased or made?
