Snack of the Day: Walnuts!

I`ve been trying to "snack smarter" so to speak, so when I was at the grocery store the other day, I decided to pick up some walnuts! Their health benefits, especially with regards to the cardiovascular system, have been well documented, and they`re delicious, of course! So really, you are getting the best of both worlds with walnuts.

Walnuts have an earthy, slightly bitter taste that I enjoy, as well as a hint of natural sweetness. They are one of my favourite nuts (besides peanuts and pistachios). I like to eat them straight, but they are also great with cereal, or in baked goods. Some people even like to eat them in salads, which is a great idea, since the fat in the walnuts will help to absorb the lipid-soluble vitamins that might be in your salad. Speaking of which, walnuts contain good fats, including omega-3 fatty acids, which are very good for you. In addition, walnuts are high and fibre and contain several different vitamins and minerals (including Vitamins B & E). Since they contain Vitamin E, they are good for your skin, too! ^^

Walnuts are my current crunchy snack of choice. They are more nutritious and more flavourful than many crackers or chips. I`m not sick of them yet, so I`ll be sticking with them for the foreseeable future! =)
