Snack: Cuppycakes from Eat Cake!

Last week my boyfriend and I took a trip to Newburyport, MA to go out to dinner (which we later found out was closed due to reconstruction). But the trip was not in jest! We popped by Eat Cake! which is a local cupcake shop which also happened to be featured on Food Network`s Cupcake Wars! The cake shop actually came in 2nd place -- but I will say the cupcakes I have tried from this shop have all been really tasty and unique.

When I got into the shop, since it was later in the day, they only had 2 flavors leftover, so I picked up the two. They sell for $3 a cupcake, which is a little high in price, but since we only go there once in a while, it`s not bad. The two flavors I purchased were a Chocolate Banana, which was a banana chocolate chip cupcake with honey butter cream and a Peanut Butter & Jelly which was a vanilla cupcake with strawberry filling and peanut butter mousse. My boyfriend and I shared half of each cupcake with one another and they really were great. The cupcake that both my boyfriend and I said was the better of the two, was hands down the Chocolate Banana!

The Chocolate Banana cupcake reminded me of a chocolate banana muffin BUT it was a cupcake! Id love to experiment in the kitchen and see if I can figure out how they did it, but it was really good. There were chocolate chips inside the cupcake batter and the top was a not overly sweet honey flavored butter cream. The Peanut Butter & Jelly tasted JUST like a pb&j! The strawberry filling did make the cupcake texture a bit sticky, because the paper was kind of sticking to the cupcake and the filling did make the cupcake itself a little wetter but it was good. I really enjoyed the peanut butter mousse. It was light, airy, with that signature peanut butter flavor.
