SM Entertainment has refueled its plans to produce upcoming drama To the Beautiful You, a Korean adaptation to the popular Japanese manga Hana Kimi. SM Entertainment has finally unveiled the two male and female leads for the upcoming drama: SHINees Minho and f(x)s Sulli. The series will be directed by "Boys over Flowers`" Jeon Ki Sang.
The original manga has had a Japanese drama version created in 2007 and a Taiwanese version produced in 2006. Both versions were extremely popular. The story is about Mijukiga, an extreme fan girl of athlete Sano, who moves from her home in America to Japan where Sano lives. She impersonates a guy to attend Sanos boys only high school. The drama will detail the lives of the schools pretty boys. SM Entertainment has a slew of good-looking male idol stars who would be perfect for the parts.
Honestly, I`ve watched the Japanese version of Hana Kimi, LOVED IT. It is absolutely hilarious. The Taiwanese version wasn`t as good but Ella Chen was BRILLIANT as the girl pretending to be boy. Now with the Korean version, and an SM-produced one no less, of Hana Kimi, I`m not sure what to expect. Sulli`s an alright actress, Minho`s alright too. But I don`t know if they`ll be able to fully encompass the gender bender comedy that Hana Kimi requires. Plus, Sulli looks way too girly to pull of the boy look. On the other hand, Minho`s perfect for the role of the angsty, moody athlete. Either way, I`m looking forward to this if only to see how it ends up being produced.
