This is my lunch of the day from today! Last night my boyfriend and I had to run a few errands and popping into the market was one of those things to do. While standing at the deli I got the ingenious idea of making Cuban sandwiches! I grabbed a pack of sub rolls and ordered up some ham, turkey and pork roast. Typical Cuban sandwiches have Swiss cheese on them, but since my boyfriend isnt much of a cheese fan and since I tend to only eat fat free American I decided to forego it all together.
What is a Cuban sandwich? Well, its a sandwich on Cuban bread, which is similar to a baguette, which is topped with sliced ham, sliced roasted pork, Swiss cheese, mustard and a pickle. The bread is usually pressed similar to a Panini. One of the local diners around makes this with turkey, ham and roast pork and its such a great combination I tend to do the same when I make my own. Although this time around I wanted to add some more veggies along with the pickle!
I sliced my sub rolls, layered on an ounce of pork, turkey and two ounces of ham. I then sprayed some butter onto my bread and toasted it on both sides, pressing the sandwich down in the pan. When done, I placed it on a plate and added my spicy mustard, pickle slice, lettuce, tomato and white onion slices. Overall it was incredibly delicious and filling! Since we have leftover meats, this will be lunch for tomorrow as well!
