Sephora vs. Ulta

I shop at both places but think both offer something different.

- membership is free
- I love how they give birthday items out (nice deluxe samples)
- This is the only place I can get my favourite fragrance aside from the official website.
- Of course the points system is good and I like how they don`t expire
- you receive samples when you order online

- you can`t return sample sizes which sucks especially since you redeemed points for them and basically are out the points.
- I have found that staff members don`t seem to be all that helpful.
- I wish there were coupons or discounts given out.
- Wish more samples were given out. Out of all the times I have shopped in the store, I have been given a sample once and that was only recently. I loved the sample but they didn`t carry the item in my store (aside from the large size which was very expensive).

- membership is free (two different ones)
- their return policy is really good
- they always have coupons and freebies
- they offer both drugstore and higher end products
- you receive samples when you order online
- the staff is very helpful and welcoming
- the store is always well stocked with items
- the points system is good and allows for a multitude of item choices
- the closest one is about an hour away from me (much closer than Sephora is)

- no birthday freebies
- the points sytem expires after so long so you have to redeem your points
- the coupons don`t work on all brands or items
- no Canadian stores so they can`t ship coupons to Canada

Both stores are great and have their pros and cons. I do enjoy how Sephora gives a birthday gift which is a really nice bonus but never really get a lot of help when I am there unless I specifically ask someone. The last time I was there, they were giving away bags of samples to people for completing a survey on their smartphone. Since I live in Canada, I set my internet to only be active with WiFi so I was unable to complete the survey. I wasn`t even asked to do it or stopped when exiting the store.

Everytime I enter Ulta, I am always greeted and asked if I need help with anything. Their return policy is great and very easy. I returned an item recently and they accepted it back without any issues. I need to make another return because the product reacts with my skin but shouldn`t have any issues. When I had to redeem my points the last time, since I am Canadian, I showed them the email with my points and was told what items I could get. I was even shown items that I was interested in. The first time I visited, I bought the Clairsonic Mia and the Purity cleanser (Philosophy). I was told I couldn`t use it for either but the girl ended up using another coupon and I got the discount (the cleanser ended up being free).
I also love that Ulta sells NYX since that is one of my favourite brands but hate that they don`t carry the concealer jars.

What is your favourite of the two?
