Love Science? Then visit New York. There are three places I would recommend for you and your child if they love science!
New York Hall of Science in Queens - http://www.nysci.org/
Currently they have a cool Animation exhibit as well as Puppet Parade. As well just opened their Mini Golf park and Playground!

Even though this is NJ it`s quite easy to get to by Path Train and Light Rail. I`ve been here when I was mentoring kids during a summer. They also have some pretty cool 3D/IMAX movies that costs extra.
Sony Wonder Technology Lab in Manhattan - http://sonywondertechlab.com/
Owned by Sony they have some pretty cool stuff here. ALSO they have FREE movies every Saturday for both adults and children. I took my daughter here for a Dora free screening. The theater is small and reservations are required.
Another place I might recommend is the New York Museum of Natural History. I last visited with Marissa (AGirlCalledYellow/Sunshine) last summer.

1) Where do you go to get your science fix?
2) Do you think Global Warming is for real?
