When I was in Palma de Mallorca this month I thought to myself I should definitely try the sangria! Sangria is a wine punch typical of Argentina, Spain and Portugal. It normally consists of wine, chopped fruit, a sweetener, and a small amount of added brandy, Seltzer, Sprite or 7 UP. It is delicious I tell ya!
Every restaurant I stopped at that`s what I got as a beverage. I liked it so much I wanted to start making it at home. So here is a quick recipe for classic sangria:
1 1/2 cups rum
1/2 cup white sugar
1 (750 milliliter) bottle dry red wine
1 cup orange juice
Put the fruit, rum, wine, and orange juice in the refrigerator to be well chilled. Slice the lemon, lime and orange into thin rounds and place in a large glass pitcher. Pour in the rum and sugar. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours to develop the flavors.
When ready to serve, crush the fruit lightly with a spoon and stir in the wine and orange juice. Adjust sweetness to taste.
And voila! Enjoy!
