One thing I always wanted to try were floral cheesecakes. I always knew you could make different food items, such as salads and smoothies, with flower petals, but I never knew you could make cake out of them.
By chance, I went to a Japanese cafe that actually served sakura cheesecake. It looks like a regular Japanese cheesecake, but it smells heavenly. Japanese cheesecakes are much less thick than New York style cheesecakes and it tastes more like mousse than cream cheese. It`s a lot lighter in texture and calories and it`s also less sweet.
The sakura cheesecake tasted like a regular Japanese cheesecake with the subtle sweetness and the texture of fresh whipped mousse. However, there was one distinction. There was a hint of sweet aftertaste at the end, probably from the sakura petals.
The taste did not resemble the smell at all. It smelled like fresh flowers but when you ate it, it tasted like a regular Japanese cheesecake with a subtle aftertaste.
It wasn`t bad, definitely worth the try if you find one =)
