Sacramento Eats: Vampire Penguin

Today is my baby sister`s birthday and we decided to treat her to Vampire Penguin on the recommendation of my brother (also because he bought a $10 voucher for $5 on Vampire Penguin sells shaved iced in different flavors, topped with a varieties of fruits and other toppings. Flavors include Strawberry cheesecake, Mexican Candy, Halo-Halo, and Mexican Candy. We ordered Strawberry Cheesecake and Mexican Candy, both in large, to go. A large runs about $7-$9, depending on the flavors. I would say a Large can serves 2-4 people, so the price isn`t that bad. I do have to say that the presentation for those who order to eat in is absolutely gorgeous. I wish we had dine in but we had a lot of stores to visit to.

Taste: The shaved ice has a snow texture: small and smooth. I absolutely love the texture of it. For the Strawberry Cheesecake (no pictures at all), it tastes exactly like its name. It has strawberries as the toppings. I did find that it was a bit sweet to my liking. As for the Mexican Candy, it tastes just like Mangonada. The shaved ice has mango syrup drizzle on it, topped with chamoy (a Mexican savory sauce that has a hint of salty, sweet, sour, and spices with Chile`s), chili powder and diced watermelons. I wished it was diced mangos since this flavor is more closely related to Mangonadas. At first, I found the watermelons a bit strange since it didn`t quite fit the flavors of chamoy and chili powder. However, a few more bites made it alright. It is not terrible but I still wished the topping was mangos.
