Here is a twist on the regular eyeliner pencil. This Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal pencil takes its inspiration from the Indian kajal liners. Typically they are meant to be very soft, creamy and a true black colour. I`m sure this cheap liner stands up to it`s inspiration although I have never used a true kajal.
It comes in a variety of colours including neutral white, black and brown with also some bright blue, purple, green colours.
This review is on number 061 Jet Black, which I have tested.
As you can see from the swatches, the colour is bold black but not as dark as it is made out to be. Rimmel advertises it as being great to smudge and from the second line you can see that after rubbing a few times the colour is still there but has smudged nicely to give a smokey look.
The formula is very creamy without being so soft that it bends. This means the colour is easily drawn onto eyes without too much tugging. It can be smudged on the top lash line for the best result and stays on all day.
In regards to using it on the lower lash line I find it amazing! I have watery eyes because of my contacts and when I run it along my waterline it doesn`t bother my eyes and transfers nicely to my top waterline without the need to tightline. Because it is so soft tightlining is actually very simple and not irritating. It does need to be reapplied once of twice during the day to keep its hold on the lower lash line.
The packaging is simple but nice. It features the Rimmel London crown logo and the name of the product in big clear letters. It is a pencil so it does need to be sharpened but that does mean you can control how sharp the tip is.
Overall it is a great cheap eyeliner that is perfect for smudging and does have quite a long wear time.
