Hello lovely Luuuxers!
One of the biggest trends in the makeup world now is contouring, and lately there have been tons of contouring products popping up on the market. I personally have not gotten into the crazy contouring trend, since I have a more narrow face shape, but I do like to do a bit of subtle shading if Im doing a bit more of a dramatic eye in order to balance out the look on my face.
I picked up the NARS Contouring Blush in Olympia because the contouring shade is not too dark or too brown, and is versatile because you can wear it as a blush as well. I also did not yet have a powder that was brightening for my undereye area, and I liked the highlighting color in this duo because it was not too yellow. Im happy to report that I like this product even more than I thought I would, and I highly recommend it!
The blush shade looks rather brownish in the pan, but on the cheeks, it leans more rose-toned. The pigmentation is excellent, as I have come to expect from NARS cheek products. It is completely matte, and blends in super smoothly. The shade is just right for my skintone, in that it leans more gray instead of orange or yellow, so it looks quite realistic and subtle. I like to apply this shade slightly lower than where I would normally apply my blush on my cheeks, and then blend upward with my brush, so that is darker near the contour point of my face but still blends into a blush-like appearance on the cheeks. I wore this on New Years Eve with my dramatic eye look and it complemented the look perfectly without looking too harsh or angular.
Ive also been in love with the highlighting shade. It is slightly yellow, which creates a brightening effect, but it is not so yellow that my skin looks jaundiced, since my skin has neutral undertones. It applies under my eyes so smoothly and does not settle into my fine lines at all. It makes me look absolutely wide awake and bright! I only wish that the brightening pan was a little bigger, because I have a feeling I will hit pan on this before I hit on the blush!
The one negative I have towards this product is the price. At $42, it is quite spendy, although it is not more expensive than other similar NARS products. I feel justified in buying it because I have been using it very often, but if you do not feel like contouring has a part in your makeup routine, then you can probably skip this product. Drugstore brands are starting to churn out contouring products, in case you wish to experiment more before dropping the big bucks on a product like this!
Have you ever tried the NARS contouring blush duo? What do you like to use for contouring and highlighting? Have you picked up on the trend? Let me know in the comments below! :)
