REVIEW: I received this sample size bottle of the Murad Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel a long while back when Murad offered an amazing deal where you get full size products as well as sample sized products when you purchased a Murad book. This bottle has lasted me for ages! I was really excited to try it because Murad is a really popular brand because their acne-fighting skincare line is really raved about. Murad is also really expensive so it was great to try their products. I used this gel when my skin broke out horribly and I found that although it did initially purge my skin a bit, it did help reduce the size of my pimples/blemishes with continued, regular use. One thing to note is that this product is really drying since it does contain 1.0% salicylic acid. It`s unique in its hydrogen peroxide delivery system that helps purify the skin. The retinol in this helps with the cell renewal process and the glycolic acid serves as a chemical exfoliant so the product can really penetrate the skin as well as smooth out the skin. I didn`t experience that strong of a stinging sensation but it will sting a bit if you have fresh open pimples. One thing I didn`t like about this gel was the thick consistency, it was a bit hard to spread and it was sticky as well so there was longer drying time before you could apply your moisturizer. It also smelled like glue, which I didn`t care for. My skin has been a lot better so I gave the second half of my bottle to my boyfriend since he`s really struggling with heavy blemishes right now. He`s been using it for about 2.5 weeks and I have definitely seen an improvement in his skin. The redness in his inflammations has gone down as well as the size of the pimples.
OVERALL, I do recommend the Murad Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel. It`s really expensive at $54 for 3.4 oz of product. However, I do feel like this product is worth the investment if you are suffering with moderate to severe acne. For those with light blemishes, I think you can just go for a cheaper alternative that works for you. At the moment, I do not need to repurchase this for myself. I might get my boyfriend a bottle though since it seems to be improving his skin.
