Hi everyone! Here is a review of a mascara that I recently hauled from CVS a couple weeks ago. This is the L`Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black waterproof mascara, and I had used the original L`Oreal Voluminous mascara when I first started using mascara several years ago and remember really liking it, so I decided to get this one.
Price & Availability - $8 to $9 depending on the location - Available wherever L`Oreal products are sold
Shade - This is the shade Carbon Black which is supposed to be the darkest black available for this mascara - There is also the original Voluminous line which has Blackest Black, Black, Soft Black and Black Brown
Packaging - Black tube with gold cap - Wand is the traditional kind
Pros - Widely available/easily accessible - L`Oreal goes on sale frequently - Pigment is very black - Makes me lashes look lush and full - Didn`t clump too much
Neutrals - Price: the regular price of this mascara was almost $9, which I think is pretty expensive for drugstore mascara. However, it seems like all drugstore brands are raising their prices. - Is not a lengthening mascara, so if that`s what you`re looking for this probably won`t do it for you
Cons - Even though this product says it`s waterproof it smudged along my lower lash line every time I wore it
Thoughts I remember seeing a popular girl from high school applying this product while we were in class and it making her lashes look like they were full and long, as if they were false lashes. So I went to the drugstore and was able to pick out which mascara she used just by looking at the packaging. The one I bought then was the original Voluminous mascara and I remember really liking it, but not having much to compare it to since I had just started playing with makeup. And while I liked it, as with all products, I was always looking for something better and this product was just another notch in my makeup belt. Now I can say that after trying a fair amount of mascaras I wanted to go back and try the Carbon Black version and was pretty excited to get it for about $4 through the use of coupons at CVS a couple weeks ago. I was actually so excited about this mascara that I tried it that day after removing the day`s makeup and immediately loved the results. My lashes looked darker and fuller. Not necessarily longer, but since I wasn`t really going for that it didn`t bother me. It advertises volume, not length. It was even more exciting when I actually put on a full face of makeup. It made my eyes stand out and really completed the look. I thought I had finally found the one...until I checked my face a couple hours into my work day. If you remember a couple weeks ago I reviewed the /viz/review-organic-wear-last-boosting-mascara-in-quotultra-blackquot-very-pic-heavy and disliked it for the raccoon eyes it gave me after a few hours. Considering the L`Oreal mascara was waterproof, I was hoping it wouldn`t do the same but I was wrong. This mascara smudged just as bad as that one and of course no one at work told me. The waterproof aspect of it came into play when I was trying to remove the smudges while at work: I couldn`t simply rub it away with some water and a napkin. I tried this mascara a few times and almost every single time it smudged along my lower lash line so this one went back to the store.
Overall I`m not sure if it was me or the mascara, but it just kept smearing on me despite it being a waterproof formula. The pigmentation and separation was excellent, but the smudging was a deal breaker for me. I`m going to try the original formula and hoping to get better results. Thanks for reading!
