Review: E.L.F. High Definition Powder

The product that I will be reviewing today is the E.L.F. High Definition Powder.

PRODUCT CLAIMS
This product is advertised as a translucent, loose powder that is great for everyday wear by wearing it alone or over a foundation to give a "soft focus" effect to your skin leaving it looking flawless and radiant.

This product is from the E.L.F. Studio Line and may be purchased for $6 from the E.L.F. website and possibly at Target. There contains 0.28 oz of product (which is not very much considering the HUGE packaging...)

The product is packaged in a sleek, black, plastic container. While this packaging is sleek, it is incredibly bulky. The product is at a height of 1.5 inches and almost 3 inches across. To open the product, the cap twists off. I really dislike the semi-rounded corners of this product because it makes it hard to open the cap and it hurts as well. Once the cap is removed, revealed is a powder puff - which I actually like because it`s really "fluffy" and is of nice-quality. Under the puff, there is a sifter. I really like this sifter because it has a wide opening. The sifter is removable as well. Aside from the wide opening of the sifter and the nice powder puff, I really dislike the bulky packaging and particularly the lid since it`s so hard to open.

This product is a supposed "dupe" of the Make Up For Ever HD Powder, and while I had it at the time, I was incredibly curious as to see how the E.L.F. HD powder compared. For the price, I would have to say that the E.L.F. powder wins by a large stretch. However, as far as quality goes, the MUFE HD powder definitely wins for me. After wearing my foundation, I set it with the E.L.F. HD powder and found that it did not really do a good job at "setting" my foundation because my foundation still felt a bit wet or moist on my skin after. It felt like I needed to use a lot of the powder to fully set it. Also, as far as oil control, I found that my face got oily very quickly throughout the day, and when I went to blot my oil with an oil sheet, I can see the foundation coming off with the oil as well. One thing that I did like about this HD powder is that I find that it did not give me that much of a "white cast." Another thing to mention is that while the powder did make my face soft, it did not feel as silky and as nice. One of the things that made me really dislike this powder is that the powder was not as fine as it should have been. From my pictures, you can see that after I tapped off the excess powder from my powder brush, there would be little "balls" or clumps of powder. This was incredibly annoying because these little clumps of powder would get stuck into my powder brush and also would end up falling on the floor. Sorry for having such a dirty lid! I found that the best way to apply this powder was to pour it out onto the lid, and then swirling my powder brush in the lid with the powder.

OVERALL, I give the E.L.F. High Definition Powder a C+
Would I repurchase? No, never again. Although this is a good powder for $6 powder, I think I can find other translucent "HD" powders that are better in quality. This powder didn`t really do a good job of setting my foundation, controlling my oil or giving that "soft focus" look. Not only can I do without the bulky packaging, I can also do without those balled up clumps of powder.
