I`ve seen so many posts of pho lately that I decided to make some for myself the other night. I was lacking a lot of ingredients so I made my own soup with soup bases, star anise, sugar, soy sauce, etc. It came out pretty good. If you don`t know what pho is, it`s a vietnamese rice noodle soup. The soup is usually made out of beef/pork bones, onions, ginger, star anise, cinnamon and a few other ingredients. It`s a very traditional and popular dish for a lot of people, not just Asians. But there are a lot of variations out there.
I threw in some shiitake mushrooms, blanched romaine and topped it with a few squirts of lime for added flavor. On top of that I threw in a mixture of cilantro, thai basil and bean sprouts along with sriracha and hoisin sauce. It was a pretty good meal and I gobbled it up like nobodies business.
Have you tried pho? What do you think?
