I am not sure about other cultures but as far as I know, the Chinese love boiling soups using different kinds of herbs as they believe that soup is one of the power foods that nourishes the body. When my mom was pregnant with my sister, she would drink soup diligently everyday and she always uses ginger,red dates, goji berries, ginseng etc to make her soup. Even after giving birth to my sister, the confinement lady would make sure that she makes soup for my mom daily so that she could replenish her body with lots of protein and Chinese herbs. I try to make soup at least every other day since my hubster is a big fan of soup:) Here`s a pot of simple but extremely tasty pot of lotus root soup that I made for my hubby and I made sure that I added lots of red dates and goji berries to ensure that "it is good for our blood circulation" as what my mom would say:)
