This is a dish I was influenced to make because of /member/bklyn-queen. I was trying to link directly to her post, but it appears she removed it? Go check out her page anyway (just click her name above). Martha, let me know if I missed it by chance.. Anyway, she posted this pasta dish maybe a week ago? It made my mouth water and I immediately added it to my list of dishes I wanted to make. I bought the ingredients and made it last night for our dinner. It was delicious! It is simple, but is sort of a comfort food (in my opinion). i`m sure I have made something similar at some point, but the thing that stuck out to me was the cheeses she used. Normally with pasta dishes I use mozzarella, parmesan, and such. Martha mixed together mozzarella and
cheddar! I never use cheddar for my pasta dishes (at least not that I can think of at the moment). I followed the steps she mentioned. The only thing I didn`t see on her post was if she added any seasonings to her meat. So, to mine I added minced garlic and diced onion as well as a bit of salt and pepper. Since I don`t see her post any longer, I`ll quickly do a run down of the steps. Basically, in a large pot cook your elbow pasta. In a separate skillet or deep pan I cooked the onion with the garlic, onion, salt, and pepper. Once browned and the pasta was fully cooked I combined the noodles into the meat. Then I poured nearly an entire LARGE jar of pasta sauce (I just used the Prego meat sauce) into the meat/pasta mixture. My husband likes a lot of sauce, that is why I used the big jar. Plus, pasta will absorb some of it and if you don`t add enough it can get dry while baking. Next, I layered into a large baking dish the noodle/meat mixture then a layer of cheeses, noodle/meat mixture, a bit more pasta sauce, and a final layer of cheese. I put it into a 375 preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes. I served mine with garlic bread. If I remember correctly, Martha made some delicious looking bruschetta. Dang it, I wish her post was still up! (Martha, what`s going on?) :-P This was absolutely delicious and I will be making it again. It even made for good left overs.
EDITED TO ADD: Okay, so apparently I`m crazy! Heatherann was able to find Martha`s post that I was talking about. LOL! I SWEAR I scrolled through at least 4 pages looking for it. :-P /viz/motd-beef-and-cheese-casserole-w-bruschetta to go directly to Martha`s post.
