Ovaltine is a popular drink in both Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. It`s a milk and malt drink that is supposed to help you wake up in the mornings. It`s mostly served as part of breakfast.
If you`ve ever been to a Cha Chaan Tang () which is a Hong Kong styled Cafe, you would probably see this on every drinks menu.
I saw this pack of Ovaltine biscuits at Walmart for $0.89 the other day and I decided to try it out since I do enjoy the occasional cup of Ovaltine. They are a bit heavy in calories though, about 180 calories a cup made with milk. That`s a bit much for me. The biscuits, on the other hand, were 180 calories for 5 biscuits, which was much more reasonable. Every 5 biscuits is individually packed and you have 4 of them in every pack for $0.89, which is very cheap!
I ate these when I had a stomach ache and they really helped as most of the biscuit was made with malt. It was one of the only things I could actually keep down in my stomach, which I was thankful for.
Overall, if you like your cookies and biscuits very sweet, this is not for you. It`s more of a mildly sweet and bland cookie with the texture of an arrowroot cookie. I liked it very much as it did taste a lot like Ovaltine and eating 3 biscuits was enough to keep me full for a few hours. If you eat them slowly, they expand in your stomach, causing you to become more full, especially if you drink water, which you will need. These biscuits were on the dry side.
Have you guys tried these?
