While I was in Ross the other day, I saw this packet of organic, gluten-free brownie mix. Now, I tend to stay away from most of the foodstuffs at stores like Ross, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls because you never truly know where they`re from or how old they are, but I figured I would give this a try since it was dry ingredients and would be baked in an oven (killing any potentially-harmful stuff).
I`m big into organic foods and try to be gluten-free when possible. However, with that comes the knowledge that often times, gluten-free foods don`t always taste the same. Honestly, I didn`t particularly have high expectations for these brownies. My Mom makes the best homemade brownies that I`ve ever had in my life so it`s next to impossible for other brownies to top them, lol. But this mix surprised me!
All you have to do is add an egg OR ground flaxseed, butter (non-dairy if you wish), and water. So the entire recipe doesn`t have to contain any dairy if that`s what you want. I personally used organic butter and an organic egg in my mixture.
The texture wasn`t exactly what I was expecting when I mixed it all together, and it tasted just okay. Nothing super duper spectacular. I put it into a pan and popped it in the oven.
When the brownies were done, I took them out and let them cool. I tried one. OH MY GOD THEY WERE DELICIOUS. Like, whoa. Wasn`t expecting that!!! I was addicted.
The brand is Wholesome Chow and they make a bunch of organic baking mixes. I DEFINITELY recommend the brownie one!! I`ll definitely be getting more!
