I saw a posting on Noveau Cheap about NYC releasing some new polishes to their permanent line and one of those polishes was a matte top coat. I wanted to try it out, particularly because I had a $1 off NYC at CVS, but my CVS had all of the new polishes but not the matte coat. After looking around, I actually stumbled upon this at Kmart so I purchased it and got this for free with a coupon (in-store coupon was buy 1 polish, get 1 free no exclusions) I did give it a try and I like it but then I dont love it. I will say it DOES make your nails look matte BUT it is a very unforgiving top coat. You can see a bit of what Im talking about in the photographs it leaves streaks when you apply. Now I only applied one coat and unfortunately I forgot to test it out with another coat on top because I was racing the sun when I decided to play around with this polish. I found the formula was fine, it applied easily, but it just didnt apply like a regular top coat would (and by that I always only use ONE coat of a shiny top coat). It also doesnt photograph that well, so I apologize for the photos but I tried to show the difference between the matte nail, a nail with a new glitter top coat by NYC and the nail by itself with just the base shade on it. In person you can significantly tell the difference, but on camera it kind of mutes and becomes dull.
I cant really complain all too much because this polish only costs $1.99 and for the price alone youre getting a product that with other brands retails for anywhere between $4-16.
The products I used in the photographs are:
* Wet n Wild - Through the Grapevine
* NYC - Matte Me Crazy
* NYC - Big City Dazzle
Have you used a matte top coat? If so, do you use one or two coats?
Would you purchase the NYC Matte Me Crazy Top Coat?
