Company wants cheaper, faster and easier production of processors.
In search of products increasingly modern and cheaper for the consumer, Nvidia may soon adopt the use of wafers (plates made of semiconductors used in the manufacture of microchips) of 450 mm for the company`s products. The information was revealed by a chief engineer of the company to EE Times.
According to Sameer Halepete, wafles wider would spread the cost of manufacturing more chips and reduce the manufacturing time for each unit, cutting expenses leaving expensive for any company in the area, since the processors today increasingly require methods more complex production.
Halepete also said that size will hardly be adopted in time to work with the first models of 14 nm, but it is necessary to use it with 28 nm products - although set no deadline for the application of new technology.
