I was recently contacted by http://Novica.com, a website working with National Geographic. Now, I`m a big fan of Nat Geo, my late grampa used to have their subscription and we`d read the magazines each month together, I even acquired his entire National Geographic collection (my current prized possession). So, when I learned Novica is in association with National Geographic, I knew this was something I had to look into.
Novica is similar to an online boutique of worldwide artisans, they share handmade products from clothing to home decor to jewelry and art. With each product you browse on Novica you can also read about the artist and where they are from.
They also have Novica Live where you can sign up to host home parties, showcase some Novica goods and even make money from it. I really want to sign up for this, Novica showcases many different items and styles, so there`s bound to be something for everyone.
I was able to pick out some items from Novica to try out and review, and I pretty much spent an entire month browsing every item on the website. I finally decided on a few jewelry pieces, I`m a very picky person when it comes to jewelry, so I picked items that I absolutely love!
I`ll begin with the Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace, `Secret Chamber` from Mahavir in India:
Symmetrical details in jali work provide a glimpse into a secret palace chamber. India`s traditional cutout work adorns an exquisite pendant by Mahavir, worn on a silver chain.
My Thoughts: I love this necklace so much, it meets many of my jewelry must-haves. The sterling silver is gorgeous, I adore the square pendant as I have a secret love for all things squared, the chain is a flattering length for me, the detail is feminine but not over the top and it is dainty enough that I can easily wear this with a t-shirt and jeans or even with a night-out outfit.
Next I chose the Pearl and Amethyst Cluster Earrings, `Jungle Orchid` from Nareerat in Thailand:
Knotted by hand on silken strands, gemstones evoke wild orchids that bloom in the jungle. Thai designer Nareerat combines amethyst with bright pearls.
My Thoughts: I initially searched for pearl jewelry because my style has to include at least one pearl. When I saw these purple and wine colored pearl earrings, I literally gasped out loud, they were gorgeous in the photos - and then they arrived. In person, these earrings are plainly captivating. The colors are vivid, the pearls are shiny and the clustering is perfect! They don`t look heavy or cluttered, and the tapered shape is so pretty. I love how these look when I wear my hair down, the pops of color peeking through my dark hair makes me feel so beautiful.
Lastly I chose the Sterling Silver Cocktail Ring, `Moonlight Lace` from Ahoy in Thailand:
This exquisite ring evokes moonlight reflected in water. Its lacy motifs are created from sterling silver with wonderfully feminine styling.
My Thoughts: I love rings, mainly sterling silver rings. I searched all the sterling silver rings probably three times before deciding on this one. This ring is very detailed, very clean and I think the size and shape flatter my long fingers well. I`m happy that this ring mixes so nicely with my other silver rings.
