After my last manicure with a Julep polish, I wanted to use the second bottle that was in my Julep Maven box and see if I`d enjoy it just as much. Because the polish was a very pale blue with glitter, I decided to boost the blue by wearing a base of an opaque baby blue and just use the Julep polish on accent nails. I enjoyed this manicure for the first day, but by the second morning it had already started to chip on me ::sad face:: The pictures, here, are of my second day manicure. You can see the chip at the tip on the index finger. That, obviously, doesn`t have the Julep polish. I should have known not to use the Sally Hansen InstaDri because I prefer it for designs rather than solid manicures for that very reason. It chips super fast. Anyone who knows me knows it drives me batty when I have any chips in my manicure. This mani is definitely being changed out before the day is up.
WHAT I HAVE ON: 1 coat of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails 1 coat of Sally Hansen InstaDri in Blue-Away 1 coat of Julep Portia on the ring fingers and thumbs 1 coat of Seche Vite I do like the looks of this manicure. I feel it is perfect for spring, but next time I pair Portia with a pale blue, it will be something that wears longer, like Essie Borrowed & Blue. As for Portia on its own.. I think it is beautiful in the bottle, but isn`t amazing once on the nails. I tested it without a base and I`m just not a fan. I think it needs to be layered. Once it is paired with a blue then it is nice and gives a sparkling ocean look. Saying that, though, I think there are a lot of glitter polishes out there that give off the same look. You just need a glitter that isn`t silver and reflecting the rainbow... but something that appears more like a flake, is translucent, and reflects blue and green. Cover Girl in Crystal Mist is a good example as well as Sinful Colors Pearl Harbor. Julep is still running their penny promo. You sign up, take their style quiz, and can order that box (or another if you don`t like the colors in your style box) for just a penny. http://www.julep.com/?r=19806710 and use code PENNY at check out.
