Hello lovely Luuuxers!
In order to break out of the doldrums of winter, I`ve been using glitter a lot on my nails to brighten my day! Then again, I never really need an excuse to use glitter...
During my last haul from Sephora, I cashed in some Beauty Insider points to receive a miniature bottle of the Deborah Lippmann nail polish in the color 99 Luftballons. I have always wanted to try a Deborah Lippmann polish, since she is the authority on glitter nail polish and her designs and colors are always very unique and sparkly! However, the really steep price tag always deterred me. I love nail polish, but $20 is a LOT for a bottle of nail polish, especially because I have so many bottles already! So I was extremely happy to have the opportunity to try this nail polish for free!
I was a little cautious with this polish because I usually hate trying to make glitter polishes look opaque. Having to do so many coats means waiting forever for it to dry, and having a gross feeling of thick, goopy nails. No way! So, to compensate, I decided to prime my nails with a layer of red jelly polish, since it would mimic the red jelly base of the DL polish. The jelly I used was L`Oreal Jolly Lolly. Then, I topped it with two coats of 99L for complete opacity!
My impression of this polish is that it exceeded my already high expectations. The colors of glitter in the red base is truly unique and I received so many compliments on my nails while wearing this manicure. There was enough glitter to create a beautiful glitzy look without looking too chunky. The only thing I could think about while wearing this polish was that I had a party on my nails! Plus, the wear time was commendable. This manicure looked flawless for about four days before seeing chipping, which was impressive considering how many layers of polish I used total. (FYI, I did top this polish with Seche Vite top coat to even out the glitter texture!)
However, is it worth $20? It certainly does have the uniqueness and quality to be worth the money. But it`s up to you if you think that much money for a bottle of polish is worth it--I personally do not think it is! I think these polishes would make excellent gifts, or something to splurge on if you have a gift card or something! I do hope to one day also try some other shades, particularly Stronger and Shake Your Money Maker! (Hint hint to anyone considering buying me a gift anytime soon! JK!)
Have you ever tried Deborah Lippmann polishes? What do you think of 99 Luftballons? Let me know in the comments below! :)
