Talk about hybrid vigor. Part shoe, part sock, Nikes new Free Flyknit sneaker combines twin technologies to create a one-two punch of flexibility and stability. The sportswear giant paired the Flyknits compressive upper with the Frees pliable outsole to deliver a barefoot-like flexibilitythat locks the foot in place, according to Sean McDowell, creative director of Nike Running. Auxiliary features include a midsole for mid-range cushioning, along with an elasticized cuff that keeps the ankle fit extra-snug. Theres even a green angle: By knitting the upper in a single piece, Nike is able to slash its typical upper waste by roughly 88 percent. Click below the fold to watch the shoe in action.
